Teeth Friendly Back to School Snacks & Foods

When packing a lunchbox with teeth-friendly snacks, you want to choose options that are not only nutritious but also promote good oral health. Here are some great snacks that are easy on the teeth and contribute to overall dental health.

Crunchy Vegetables:
1. Carrot Sticks: Crunchy carrots help clean teeth and stimulate gums.
2. Celery Sticks: Pair with a small amount of hummus for added flavor.
3. Bell Pepper Strips: High in vitamin C and gentle on teeth.

Fruits:
1. Apple Slices: Apples help stimulate saliva production, which can help wash away food particles and bacteria.
2. Pear Slices: Less acidic than citrus fruits and also stimulate saliva flow.
3. Berries: Blueberries and strawberries are lower in sugar and high in antioxidants.

Dairy:
1. Cheese Cubes or Sticks: Cheese helps neutralize acids in the mouth and is a good source of calcium.
2. Greek Yogurt: Opt for plain yogurt and add fresh fruit for a natural sweetness. Greek yogurt is lower in sugar and higher in protein.

Whole Grains:
1. Whole Grain Crackers: Choose those with minimal added sugars and pair with cheese for added calcium.2. Oatmeal Muffins: Make with whole grains and less sugar.

Proteins:
1. Hard-Boiled Eggs: Great source of protein and less likely to cause cavities compared to sugary snacks.
2. Turkey Roll-Ups: Use whole-grain tortillas or lettuce wraps to avoid extra sugar.

Nuts and Seeds:
1. Almonds: A good source of calcium and healthy fats. Ensure there are no allergy concerns.
2. Sunflower Seeds: Packed with nutrients and easy on teeth.

Other Ideas:
1. Plain Popcorn: Air-popped and without added butter or salt. Popcorn can help clean teeth due to its fibrous texture.
2. Rice Cakes: Opt for whole-grain varieties and pair with a thin spread of nut butter or cheese.

Tips for Teeth-Friendly Lunches:
Avoid Sugary Snacks: Candy, cookies, and sugary drinks can increase the risk of cavities.
Include Water: Encourage hydration with water rather than sugary beverages.
Encourage Brushing: If possible, have your child brush their teeth after lunch to help maintain oral health.

Including a variety of these snacks can keep your child's lunchbox both nutritious and teeth-friendly.
